Rachel Arbuckle is an Irish artist who graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 1990. Rachel has long been inspired by priceless celtic treasures such as the Book of Kells and the Book of Durrow. Her work, using a celtic theme, is in great demand both in Ireland and abroad. Many examples of her work can be seen on greeting cards, playing cards and other gift items marketed by Natures Craft of Dublin, Ireland, under the banner of The Celtic Card Team. The playing cards, called Irish Legendary Playing Cards - started as part of her final year project, are highly thought of by playing card collectors around the world. Since Rachel married in 1995, she has lived in Gaiole in Chianti, a market town nestling in a valley, surrounded by the Chianti Hills in Tuscany, Italy. Her new environment has stimulated her to produce a series of cards called Pino Designs, using images from her new surroundings. She has also branched out into a unique form of child portraiture, combining an image of a child with his or her favourite, fantastical animals and features. She was invited to represent Gaiole among Tuscany's young artists in the Innesti Doc section of Tuscia Electa 1998 exhibition in Tuscany. For the exhibition, she decorated a chestnut beam with a fanciful representation of a skirmish between the armies of Florence and Siena. The beam was suspended in an archway in Panzano during the period of the exhibition. Rachel has also been asked to design shopfronts and signage for a number of shops in Gaiole in Chianti. This work and a number of private commissions keep Rachel very busy, in addition to caring for her young family. Rachel has also recently been commissioned to design a range of jigsaws, which are now available from Tailten Games in Ireland. You can contact Rachel by email: rachel@arbuckle.com Bed
